various hammond organ projects.
because i play hammond organ, i have always to deal with
these
monsters. so i share my experience,pain and other infos here.
i play the a C3/leslie 122,
for gigs i use a T200 heavy mod with a 760er leslie
and if transport is a problem a XK-3 with either a 760er leslie
or a Farfisa FR-40 tube amp.
and when i have to use public transport to go to the gig viscount
d9 expander & a fatar
studio49 plus a homebrew leslie....

the "motion-flo" portable leslie...
-------------------------------------->
sometimes when space&weight is a problem i use a viscount d9
expander & a fatar studio49 keyboard which sounds
acceptable with a 760er or 122er leslie.
this summer i had an openair gig. no van or
station car
available to transport my 760er.
so i had to go by public transport. but how to bring my
equipement
into public train and bus, alone???
the day before i decided to build a small portable unit.
i had a rotor from a strange italian leslie clone. i went to the
"diy"-marked cut some wood and put together that ugly thing.
cheap, quick&dirty. but sounds definitely better than an electronic
simulation. i will change the rotor to a original leslie rotor
as soon as i can get one.
the unit is 55x40cm and approx. 25cm thick. approx 12 kg weight
speakers are 4inch mids, 2 pcs and a 8ohms horn driver.

as amp i am still looking for a good solution. i think i will use a 60W
amp with a tube pre.at the gig i used a bassman top from the band
playing after us. so that sounded ok.
the T-200 portable project...
-------------------------------------->
how small can a t-200 organ be...not a beauty but comes close to
the
term: portable
the source was a totally f..ed up t200. which was
used on stage for many years. almost all of the keys where
broken,steady tones because of dentrides
and excessive hum made this t200 unplayable. so together with the owner
pesche, i decided to take appart and to build into a smallest possible
case.
light enough to carry by two small guys like me.
some impressions:
-->t200 as is
in quite bad shape...this is the source plus an ao-29 from ebay
-->peter the pround owner and assistant is ready to franken that beast
-->after a few minutes of fun.. of fun we brought it to the essentials..
-->some parts for the new organ laying ready to reuse.the switch panel i did not used...
-->on the test bench all
connected and working..i played first the chop
-->t200port1 one of the gigs with old
protoversion with 5mm wood. not very stable. but with ao-29
the main problem was the volume pedal.
after this first stage of experiments i changed the case to more solid
wood. also the ao-29 amplifier i attached as a preamp i
disconnecteed at the moment. i used again a few of the original
t100 modules.
at the moment i use the following setup:
- upper busbar amp. modified. as suggested by www.tonewheel.de ,
carsten meyer mods.
- lower busbar amp as suggested by www.tonewheel.de , carsten
meyer mods.
- recovery amp . changed transistors to BC550/560 low noise
- percussion board. heavy modifications. only 2nd/3th percussion kind
of fast speed. percussion presets
are on the right side on the first 2 switches.
-a selfmade 24V powersupply.
the output is to a jack connector. also i left the multipin connector
to attach alternatively the AO-29 tube preamp in an additional box.
played trough a 122 tube leslie the sound is pretty good.also i like
the percussion sounds now.
work to do:
- adding vibrato. therefore i need a few signal relais to switch the
different vibrato pads.
- rewiring for ao-29 use
the C-3 fix and mod project
----------------------------------------->
one day a incredible smell, followed of thick smoke came out of my
wonderfull
c-3.
both motors wherere totally burned.so i had to change. first i wanted
to
rewind.someday i will do. but
for a quick solution i found both motors on ebay.
---->here is a special page with the pictures of the mechanical belt driven 50 to 60 hz conversion...very
noisy unreliable and ugly....
my selfmade 50/60 hz converter.quarz stable ,low cost and save. motor
runs
on 80 volts instead of 115.
at the moment i use a converter from germany also nicely made. just
during start up 2 resistors start to smoke.....
various hammond documents...
