satrap activ. 2007-2008

analog synthesizer & electronic instrument.
when i found an old vacuum cleaner on the flea marked i knew from the first second that this will turn into an instrument
a first, very primitve version, contained only a few potentiometers and knobs to control external synthesizers
with time i filled the body more and more .
at the moment satrap aktiv contains:
an analog synthesizer:
2x cmos-vco
1x 555 based adsr
1x moog ladder vcf
1x vca
a cv to midi interface:
a simple 8 step cmos sequencer
simple lfo
2x carbon ribbon control
4x presetable knobs

FLooper. 2007

a multi track sound looper.
one of my must have tools for live performance. the flooper is the prototype of my multitrack loop machine
all cmos construction. the sound is converted by 8 bit A/D - D/A converter. sound is stored in 512Mx8 SRAM.
all the controlling, adress counters etc is made with simple cmos chips. no microcontroller. no programming.
sound is rough, old skool 8 bit and it rocks as hell
i added steiner-diode voltage controller filters for channel 1 and 2
a mixer and mute switches for all channels.
the FLooper contains 3 tracks at the moment. the final version will have 6 tracks

my 2nd conversion of an old typewriter into an instrument.
the letters generate a cv/gate signal
various piezos glued on the mechanics can pick up the sound of the typewriter itself.
on the rubber cylinder i glued tapes onto.where i can record sounds.. simple loops. etc
also the ink ribbon was replaced with a magnetic tape

a simple 16step cmos sequencer.
very simple and straight forward design. 4040 binary counter connected to 3x 4067 multiplexer. one for cv, one for gate and one for the leds
i added a 4046 based cmos vco to use the sequenz16 standalone.very primitive cmos square wave..
i hope to finde the time to add a nice diode or moog vcf..poor man's tb303

during development of durchdrehen performance, i started experimenting with rotating beercans.
the surface of the cans can be read out with optical sensors.
the variable voltage can generate directly a sound or just generate trigger signals to control synths.
depending at whic part of the can , and also what kind of a can there are many different sounds
the rotating basis was made out of an old atx_power supply fan.

the can-thizer was a study for an installation in zurich 2007. i finally decided to show something else.
each can consists of a sound generator.a filter or something else.
the concept of can-thizer was used later for objects of the thon-traeger series.
